사진 4-188. 어떤 종류든 약물로 치료받기 전에 그 약물이 젖 먹는 아기에게 해가 될 수 있는지 의사에게 문의한다.

아기에게 갈락토스혈증이 있을 때,
엄마가 활동성 결핵을 앓을 때,
엄마가　 Bromocriptine, Cocaine, Cyclophosphamide, Cyclosporine, Doxorubicin, Ergotamine, Lithium, Methotrexate, Phencyclidine(PCP), Phenindione 등 약물로 치료 받을 때,
엄마가 Amphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, Nicotine, Phencyclidine 등의 습관성 약물을 사용할 때는 모유수유를 해서는 안 된다.
에이즈(후천성 면역결핍 증후군/HIV infection)를 앓는 수유모가 아기에게 모유수유를 계속 할 경우 엄마의 젖을 먹는 아기들의 15% 정도가 후천성 면역결핍 증후군에 걸릴 수 있으므로 모유수유를 해서는 안 된다.
생명을 위협할 정도로 심하게 앓는 엄마나 극도로 쇠약한 엄마도 모유를 수유하는 것을 권장하지 않는다.
일반적으로 수유모가 감기 등 급성 바이러스성 상기도 감염병, 급성 바이러스성 위장염, 요로 감염 등 급성 박테리아성 감염병을 앓을 때는 중증도에 따라 수유를 일시적으로 중단할 수는 있지만, 감염병의 중증도가 좋아지면 모유수유를 계속할 수 있다.
의사에게 문의해서 언제부터 모유수유를 계속할 수 있나 알아본다.
이 밖에 모유수유를 할 수 없는 경우가 있을 수 있다.
모유수유를 계속 해도 되는지 확실히 모를 때는 의사에게 문의해서 결정한다.

When your baby has galactosemia, When a mother has active tuberculosis, When the mother is treated with drugs such as Bromocriptine, Cocaine, Cyclophosphamide, Cyclosporine, Doxorubicin, Ergotamine, Lithium, Methotrexate, Phencyclidine (PCP), Phenindione, etc.

She says she should not breastfeed when she uses habitual medications such as Amphetamine, Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, Nicotine, and Phencyclidine.

If a nursing mother with AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome/HIV infection) continues to breastfeed her baby, about 15% of the mother’s breastfeeding babies may develop acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and should not breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is not recommended even for mothers who are severely ill or extremely debilitating enough to be life-threatening. In general, when a nursing mother suffers from acute viral upper respiratory infections such as colds, acute viral gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, and acute bacterial infections, depending on the severity, breastfeeding can be temporarily stopped, but if the severity of the infectious disease improves, breastfeeding should be stopped.

You can continue. Ask your doctor to find out when you can continue breastfeeding. In other cases, breastfeeding may not be possible. If you are not sure if you can continue breastfeeding, ask your doctor to decide.
